Solutions for Your Dental Problems

1. Veneers Veneers are used to close spaces between teeth as well as cover discolored, misshaped and misaligned teeth. Dr Wenck has worked with veneers since 1986 and all of his patients have been very pleased with their results.

There are two types of veneers: porcelain and resin (plastic).

Porcelain veneers are very stable and don't change color. They are like glass coverings on the front and fitting surfaces of your teeth. Once in place, porcelain veneers remain durable and often last for years. Porcelain veneers are fabricated in a lab and can be made very thin.

Resin (plastic) veneers are made directly onto your teeth. Although they are faster to make, the resins do pick up stains and will eventually have to be replaced.

2. Alan_C.jpgCrowns  These are sometimes referred to as CAPS.  There are three main types of crowns.  The most popular crown is a Porcelian

2. Mini implants These implants are especially useful to hold in lower dentures, as 90 percent of denture problems occur with lower dentures. These mini implants will provide fantastic stabilization. They are placed and fitted to your denture in one to three appointments.

3. Gum Disease (Periodontal disease) We have been utilizing the Perio Protect system to control periodontal disease. Perio Protect is the most effective non invasive treatment for gum disease. It is a patented and FDA cleared medical device that delivers and maintains prescribed antimicrobial medication into the tissues surrounding the teeth. Learn more by visiting: www.perioprotect.com

4. Missing Back Teeth The hugger bridge is a cost effective, non invasive, tooth colored alternative to a permanent bridge. It will provide two to three years of service until an implant or a permanent bridge can be made.

5. IMG_0815siezed.JPGOrthodontics for Adults The Homeoblock™ appliance is a unique orthodontic device that is only worn at night. The Homeoblock™ not only straightens your teeth but it can help you to breath easier, reduce snoring, sleep better and give you a more pleasant and relaxed smile. Contact us today for more information on this appliance and to see if it's right for you.

6. Bruxism (ground down front teeth) People who grind their teeth at night (a condition known as bruxism), develop worn down front anterior teeth. In some cases, grinding requires the placement of crowns on all of the teeth, which could cost upwards of $20,000. Now with Levy Lingual Ledges, there is a fast, easy, flexible, and inexpensive way to restore teeth to normal lengths and appearances. Contact our practice today for more information or to schedule an appointment and evaluation.

7. Composite Resins (white fillings) Composite resins, or white fillings, have two major advantages over the old silver looking amalgam:. they have a more natural color and they bond better to the tooth structure. There are many shades available and patients like the look of natural looking teeth. Composite resins last just as long as the amalgams.

8. Children Dr. Wenck starts seeing children for dental appointments at a very early age. Exams are conducted to check on jaw development and he counsels parents on proper dental care, so cavities can be avoided. For older children, we utilize the "tell, show, and approach" method. We tell the child what we are going to do, we show them the instruments, and lastly, we do it. We never lie to a child; instead, we try to explain it to them in a way they can understand and be comfortable with. For example, for anesthesia we tell the child that he/she will feel a mosquito bite. Using this approach and starting with simple easy procedures, we are able to gain the child's confidence. Parents are allowed in the treatment rooms with their child, but generally the child pays attention and cooperates better when the parents are not present.

9. Root Canals (Endodontics) This is a great way to salvage badly broken down and abscessed teeth. Dr. Wenck has had extensive post graduate training in root canal therapy. We do over a hundred root canals a year and 95 percent of the abscessed teeth, we are able to treat in our office.

9. Extractions Dr. Wenck has had considerable training in oral surgery in dental school, the United States Navy, and post graduate work. He is comfortable in extracting badly broken down teeth and most wisdom teeth.

Care of the Mouth after Extraction

1. Do not rinse mouth today. Tomorrow rinse mouth gently every 3 to 4 hours, (especially after meals) using one-quarter teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water.

2. Bleeding. Following extraction's some bleeding is to be expected. If persistent bleeding occurs, roll up a wet gauze, squeeze out the excess water, place over bleeding area and bite down firmly for one half hour. Repeat if necessary. Wet tea bags may also be used on the site if bleeding persists.

3. Swelling. For the first 12-18 hours only, use an ice bag or chopped ice wrapped in a towel, applied to the operative area, one half hour on and one half hour off.

4. Pain. For mild to average pain use Tylenol or Advil (Ibuprofen), no aspirin. If you are taking prescription narcotic pain relievers take them with food or milk and do not drive or use dangerous machinery.

5. Foods and Drink. Eat and drink soft, cold or room temperature (Not Hot) items for the first 24 hours. No hard liquor.

6. Bony Edges. Small, sharp bone fragments may work up through the gums during healing. These are not roots, if annoying, return to this office for their simple removal.

7. No smoking or sucking on straws for the first 6 hours.

8. No vigorous exercise. 24 hours after surgery.

9. If any unusual symptoms occur, call the office at once, or Dr. Wenck at home; 530-544-5356

10. The proper care following oral surgery procedures will hasten recovery and prevent complications.

Crown and Bridge Postoperative Instructions

Temporary Crowns and Bridges:

These plastic temporaries have several important functions:

1. They keep the sensitive part of the living tooth covered and feeling good during the laboratory fabrication of the permanent restoration.

2. Temporary's enable you to chew your food normally.

3. They hold the tooth in the same position while the permanent crown or bridge is being made.

If the temporary comes out, your tooth will be sensitive, your chewing will be affected, and the tooth will drift to a new position, making the fitting of the new crown or bridge more difficult, if not impossible.

Please come back to the office and we will be happy to cement your temporaries back in at no cost.

Warning!!

1. Avoid sticky foods, such as caramels, candy and chewing gum.

2. When flossing around the temporaries, do not pull up on the tooth, but rather let go of one end of the floss and pull it through your teeth.

Bite on new crowns and bridges

Sometimes when patients are in the office they are so tense that they change their bite. After leaving the office and relaxing back to their normal bite, the crown or bridge will begin to feel high. This is not a big problem. Please give us a call and we can easily readjust the bite at no cost to you.
